As a 16-year-old driver, Daniel was performing perfectly in the last season of Asian Formula Renault with Asia Racing Team. He had obtained a total of 231 points, with 4 champions and 8 podiums, which brought him the overall 1st runner up in the series and beaten other 6 young drivers and crowned the overall winner of Road to Champion Young Driver Program, who will get the full year sponsorship from Renault Sport Formula One Team to race in the single seater championship in Europe in 2018.
Daniel commented, "It is just an amazing year for me to start my motorsport path. Having two formula championships together in the same season makes my schedule crash in one of the race, which I gave up the Shanghai race in July and got disadvantage to chase for the overall champion in AFR Series. However, I kept up the pace in the remaining rounds and I took the scholarship from Renault Sport Formula One Team in the end. I feel so happy that I can get to have a rookie test in the Formula Renault Eurocup in Spain. Nothing can be more excited to wait till the day comes."
He added, “I would like to thank Asia Racing Team for supporting me all the way in the season. I did have bad lucks in the middle of the year but everyone beside me keep encouraging me to do the best. Although I missed out one race, I still managed to keep up the pace and try to win all remaining rounds. I would also like to thank my family for taking care of all other issues besides my racing, which keeps me taking lower pressure and focus on every race. In the end, I have to thank FRD for organizing such a great series. This will be one of my most unforgettable seasons in my life.”
