Dream Team Reunites in ShanghaiSource：Changan Ford Racing Team   Post：2017-08-04
Rainey He, Andy Yan, and Martin Cao will team up with James Nash for the third time this season as Changan Ford Racing Team continues its quest to retain the China Touring Car Championship Manufacturers’ title that it won so emphatically last year.
Sitting at the top of the table with a comfortable 29-point lead over its nearest rival, the team will look to dominate at the Shanghai International Circuit this weekend to further widen its gap with the rest before the series takes an 8-week summer break. Changan Ford Racing Team should be more than satisfied with its efforts so far this season. After a solid start to the season in Zhuhai, the Captain He-led team utterly dominated the next two rounds to put itself in a commanding position in both the Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ Championships.
However, success comes with a price and in the last round, Changan Ford Racing Team found themselves racing with Balance of Power (BOP) implementation as well as a total Success Ballast of 360kg. These challenges could have been costly but He, Yan, Cao, and guest driver Peter Li fought their battles beautifully and came through with flying colours.
With the impressive 31-year-old Nash rejoining this week, the reigning champions will be confident of a superb showing in Jiading. The young Brit has been a star performer for Changan Ford Racing Team this season, scoring points at each of his four races, including a runner up finish in round three when the team claimed all three places on the podium.
Brian Ma, Team Technical Director of Changan Ford Racing Team, said:
“We are half way through the season and the whole team is delighted with where we are in the championship. The last round presented some potential challenges for us, with the BOP and the Success Ballasts but we put our heads together and came through as a team, which gave us a lot of confidence. It is a different ball game altogether this weekend because the Shanghai International Circuit is longer than most and with its sizeable straight stretches, the fast cars can get a tremendous amount of speed going. With the weight we are carrying, it could work against us. But we have been here before, and have seen enough times that our seasoned drivers are able to navigate round the most difficult of problems, so we will make sure we can come out on top again this weekend.
We are delighted to have James back this week. He gets really well with Rainey, Andy, and Martin as well as our technicians and engineers, which really helps in our sport. We are looking forward excellent team work again and perhaps we will see another Changan Ford Racing Team podium clean sweep.”
The design of the spectacular 4.6km track at Shanghai International Circuit is inspired by the Chinese character for ‘Shang’ in ‘Shanghai’. The Qualifying Race to determine starting positions on the grid will take place at 4:50pm tomorrow while the two races on Sunday are scheduled for 8:43am and 1:10pm.
