All eyes will be on Changan Ford Racing Team this weekend at the Shanghai Tianma Circuit as the dominant team of the season so far looks to continue its momentum and consolidate its position at the top of the Manufacturers’ Championship.

After three rounds of the 2017 China Touring Car Championship, the Rainey He led team has a 41-point lead over its nearest rival, which was highlighted by a clean sweep of the podium at race two in Guiyang City two weeks ago. Martin Cao, a core member of the team, is also the current leader in the Drivers’ Championship with 78 points. Captain He, together with James Nash who raced for Changan Ford Racing Team the last two rounds, are tucked in nicely behind the 24-year-old in joint second place.

Nash will be replaced this weekend by Peter Zhi Cong Li, who is making his eagerly anticipated first appearance for Changan Ford Racing Team. The 23-year-old was due to race for the team last year but injuries sustained from a shocking crash at a Formula 3 European Championship race in Austria prevented that from materialization. However, having made a full recovery from multiple broken heel bones and four fractured vertebrae, the Guangzhou-native is back and is looking forward to some solid driving over the two races on Sunday.

It has been three years since Peter back to CTCC, he said:

“I am so glad to join Changan Ford Racing Team and satisfying with the car performance when testing in Zhaoqing. I am taking a learning attitude this time and looking forward to success with the great teamwork.”

Andy Yan, who had a rather unlucky weekend at Guiyang City where he recorded a ‘DNF’ in both races, will be back to join Captain He, Cao, and Li. The team should be confident of an impressive run at the 2.1km circuit in Sheshan as it was here Changan Ford Racing Team secured the Manufacturers’ Championship crown last season.

Brian Ma, Team Technical Director of Changan Ford Racing Team, said:“We are coming up to the half way mark of the season and can’t be happier with how things are going for the team. Of course we were delighted with the outcome at Guiyang City, and a clean sweep of the podium does a lot for confidence, not just for the drivers, but the engineers and technicians as well. James did a great job for us the last two rounds but we are looking forward to have Peter representing Changan Ford Racing Team this week. It was unfortunate what happened to him a year ago but he has made a tremendous recovery and is back racing again, which just show the strength and resolve of his character.

We are ready for a dominate performance this week but we are not taking anything for granted as for sure, other teams will pull out all the stops to try and catch us.”

The Qualifying Race for this round to determine race one starting positions will begin at 15:50 today while race one and two will flag off at 8:43 and 13:10tomorrow respectively.
