Reigning champion Changan Ford Racing Team made an encouraging start to its 2017 China Touring Car Championship Super Cup campaign with all four members of the team finishing inside the top 10 in the first race at the Zhuhai International Circuit this morning.

Andy Yan, who started in second position on the grid, led the team home in fifth place. The 33-year-old started strongly but contact by a competitor car on lap 7 stalled his progress. The seasoned professional used all his guile to maintain his position in a gutsy performance, which he should be proud of.

Captain Rainey He and team mate Martin Cao assumed the next two places in sixth and seventh to earn valuable points for the team.

Brian Ma, Changan Ford Racing Team’s Technical Director, said:“It was an interesting race. Our team did well, but there are areas we will need to improve on. This morning gave us the chance to determine what further adjustments we need to make to our cars and we will make sure we are ready for the final race this afternoon. I think we are almost there, but we will do what is necessary to give our drivers the best chance of a podium finish.”

Daniel Lloyd competed his first race for Changan Ford Racing Team in a respectable 10th place. The Englishman commented:“It was good fun and I was really happy with my start. I kept it clean, and made up two places, which I am proud of. I think we struggled a bit with our braking and power that we can work out between now and race two. Overall, it has been a really enjoyable experience working with the Changan Ford Racing Team, and I am looking forward to driving well this afternoon.”
