Following a six-month break, a refreshed and fully recharged Changan Ford Racing Team is back in Zhuhai to kickstart its 2017 China Touring Car Championship campaign. The team, a highly successful collaboration between Changan Ford and FRD that began in 2006, enjoyed a formidable first season in the Super Production 2.0T class last year, winning the Manufacturers’ Championship while captain Rainey He was runner-up in the Drivers’ Race.
With enhancements ranging from powertrain upgrade to aerodynamic improvements, Changan Ford Racing Team will look to dominate right from the word go this weekend at the 4.3km Zhuhai International Circuit. 11-year veteran He will once again take the reins from the drivers’ perspective, supported by long-term team mates, seasoned pros Andy Yan and Martin Cao. Joining the experienced trio in Zhuhai will be Daniel Lloyd, who will be representing Changan Ford Racing Team for the first time. The 25-year-old has already accumulated an impressive list of achievements in his short career.
Last year, the Englishman secured front row qualifying positions in both British Touring Car Championship and Porsche Carrera Cup races.
Brain Ma, Technical Director of Changan Ford Racing Team, said:“It is a brand new season and we are eager to get going right here in Zhuhai. Last year was our first season in the Super Production 2.0T class and we were able to win the overall championship, which really thrilled us.
This year, we are confident to do even better and it will be our goal to win the double. Rainey, Andy and Martin are raring to go, and we are excited to have Dan joining us this week. He will be a big value add to our team, and his practice times today are an indication of what he is capable of. We are looking forward to Sunday.”
