2017 Renault Clio Cup China Series R1 will be starting off in Zhuhai International Circuit on 18th March, while the day before the official practice and qualifying had finished with amazingly close gap in lap time between drivers. After two days of practice sessions, drivers were successfully clocked their personal best lap during the sessions. Hung Yi and Frank Yee had clocked the fastest lap time in practice and qualifying session respectively, with a lap time of 1:55.936 and 1:55.998. However, David Lau was suffering from minor accident during the qualifying and still trying to seek for the faster lap time.

The only new driver in this race was Zhou Jia. Although he got not much experience in motorsport racing, he was able to clock within 1:58s range with the instruction from 2016 overall champion Kenneth Lim. His lap time was only 0.014s slower than the experienced driver Song Bo.

The first race will be starting on 18th March at 3:30pm.
