The new generation of Formula Renault 2.0 will join the grid of Asian Formula Renault Series in the 2014 season as the series will expand its territory towards the Asian Pacific Region.

Asian Formula Renault (AFR) Series has been the leading single-seater racing series in the Greater China region for the previous decade. Many up-and-coming drivers from the Asia region join this series as a stepping stone to higher level of racing. Some famous drivers such as former F1 racers Scott Speed, Bruno Senna, Kamui Kobayashi and Kazuki Nakajima also once joined the series. With such a heritage, Asian Formula Renault Series will take on a new step as the new Formula Renault 2.0 racecars will feature in the 2014 season.

The new FR2.0/13 race car will feature the most advance technology supported by Renault. With the paddle-shift gear box and more advance aerodynamic package, drivers can have a more F1-related experience on Formula Renault race cars. The car would be more accessible for mechanics and it is designed to level up the playing field to create more exciting races and lead to a real test for skills for drivers. Finally, the new car will be a much safer wagon as it compiles to the latest FIA safety regulations.

2014 AFR Series will be the 15th season since its inauguration and Formula Racing Development (FRD) will continue to be its race organizer and promoter. Kenneth Ma, founder of FRD, is confident that the new generation Formula Renault race car can attract more up-and-coming drivers and regional teams to join the grid. “Formula Renault is the leader of junior racing category in Europe and I hoped it can be brought to Asian region for our drivers as a stepping stone 15 years ago,” he recalls, “The new FR2.0/13 will be a much better equipment to help young drivers to develop skills in modern racing car, such as paddle shifter and F1-style aero-package, and I believe more competitive teams and drivers will be interested to get involved in the series.”

The 2014 season will be kicked off in March at Zhuhai International Circuit.
