The AFR final event took place in Zhuhai on 7-8 December. Weather was good. Drivers were all ready to win for themselves.

Saturday afternoon, Race 1

Having claimed six race victories in last 10 races en route to finishing first in the final standings, Joey Alders came into the meeting with a comfortable 37-point buffer over his nearest challenger Bruno Carneiro. He was expected to be crowned the overall championship in Zhuhai last weekend, and he did not disappoint.

After taking pole position in race 1, Joey took his time, adopting a conservative approach, dominating Race 1 from start-to-finish, took a clean sweep of race wins to seal the Overall Winner title and receive a prize package worth Euro45,000. This includes the entry fee of Formula Renault Eurocup 2020.

The order remained unchanged as they crossed the line, with Bruno comfortably claiming the second, ahead of Peter Li in third.

Slightly behind, Sandro and Ni Weiliang dropped one position in the beginning of the race. Ni Weiliang could not get the position back, crossing the finish line in sixth.

Patrick Tsang pointing directly at the Turn 14 wall of the Zhuhai circuit after the 3 laps of his first race, he was forced to retire from the race.

Sunday morning, Race 2

Last race of the season took place in the early morning. Bruno began in pole while Peter Li in the second, they lost their positions at the beginning of the race, Joey sweeping from 3rd to first in one lap. Bruno tried to make his way back up the field but Joey kept his pace very well. From there until the end of the race, Bruno opted to keep himself out of trouble, collecting precious second-place to stick at the second of the championship standings.

Peter Li was closely followed by the forth-place car Sandro until the final moments of the last lap where Sandro managed to slip into third place and snatched the final podium place.

Stephen Hong and Ni Weiliang were battling for the whole season. Stephen repeated a fifth place-finish again, crossing the finish line ahead of Ni Weiliang.

Jack Chan’s retirement gave Patrick Tsang an advantage to beat the win of Elite Class.
