Morning Practice ended with 4 teams with cars in the top 5, while the equally tight afternoon session sets the scene for an intriguing 2018 three-cornered contest between Asia Racing Team, Black Arts Racing, and series newcomers Eurasia Motorsport.

Talented Indonesian junior Perdana Putra Minang of Asia Racing Team lived up to the pressure of carrying car number 1, with the fastest time in both the morning and afternoon session. His morning time, a 1:34.722 around the Zhuhai circuit was the fastest combined practice time.

“Pace was decent, set the quickest [time] for both practices, but we still need improvement in my driving and the set up of the car. But I’m really satisfied with the progress we made throughout the day and what the team done for me,” said Minang.

Most teams ran a combination of old and new tyres through the practice session, with the first real test of competitiveness being the 30-minute qualifying session tomorrow morning.

Defending champions Black Arts Racing were close with both Antolin Gonzalez and Daniel Cao, but couldn’t quite match the ART pace. The deficit, 0.14 in practice 1 to Gonzalez, and 0.37 to Cao in practice 2, could easily be explained by tyre condition

Black Arts Team Manager Josh Evans was unconcerned: “All drivers performing well but as always, there is room for improvement. We have lots of data to go through tonight and will be looking to take a step forward tomorrow morning in qualifying.”

Newcomers to Formula Renault, but certainly not newcomers to racing Eurasia Motorsport delivered on day one, with Australian Kurt Hill and Sri Lankan Eshan Pieris both filling places in the top 6 in both sessions.

Louis Prette returns to AFR for PS Racing, and his Formula Renault experience cannot be counted out, only 0.4 seconds off the ultimate pace for the day, he will also be a threat tomorrow.

Asia Racing Team’s Akmal Ashibli is fastest in the Elite class for older cars, in 16th outright.

Track Activity returns tomorrow with qualifying at 8:45am and the 30 minute Race 1 at 14:20, before Race 2 completes the event on Sunday. The event will be live streamed, with live timing and results at
